One Unique Blogger: Amuse About

1.       Tell the readers about your blog Amuse About like when did you start and what you post?
AMuse About is my take on life, as inspired by the clothes I wear. I use the outfits I post  as inspiration to reflect on memories, events and sometimes just further develop ideas which have previously crossed my mind. It's as much about the writing as it is about the clothes, so it's very personal but fun and engaging at the same time.

I started doing the photos for it back at the end of 2010 but the first post didn't go up until February this year and back then it was mainly friends who knew about it. I've only been really active on the blogging community for about a month and the response has been phenomenal.

2.       Why did you start blogging?
I've loved beautiful clothes ever since I can remember and over the years, because of this fascination, I'd collected an impressively excessive amount of beautiful things. I felt they were being wasted hanging in the walk-in, getting to be worn on the odd occasion. So I thought blogging about these clothes would be the perfect solution to give them the recognition I think they deserve and to encourage myself to wear things I'd long forgotten about in the process of new purchases coming along. It was also a great way for me to practise my writing and do something creative beyond the corporate job that I worked.

3.        So what equipment do you use to take your pictures?
My boyfriend and I take the photos and we use a Canon 50D with an 24-105mm f/4 L lens and Adobe Lightroom for post-production.

4.       The clothes you show on your blog are excellent, what influences your style?
I have a real appreciation for beautiful fabrics and intricate detailing so silk, lace, sequins and soft leathers are things I naturally gravitate towards. My style is classically feminine and whimsical so I also Iove things that flow, drape and fall beautifully on various parts of the body.

If I try something on and it makes me feel better than I did a moment ago, that's the best way of deciding whether to buy it or not. Clothes have a way of making you feel good so that rush and happiness I get wearing certain things over others is definitely more influential on my style than any one celebrity or feature in a fashion magazine.

5.       What inspires you day to day to blog?
I love the idea of creating something and seeing the finished result. I know it's a virtual plane so it's not the same as painting a canvas or sewing a dress but there's something very tangible about a post that is being read by hundreds of people. It allows me to be creative with my clothes, my photography and most importantly, my words.

6.       Who are your favorite designers?
Right now it would have to be Ellery, Lover and Therese Rawsthorne - all Australian and all amazing in their craft.

7.       What are your aspirations for your blog?
In the short term, I would love just to increase the size of my audience and have people coming back because they love what I do. In the long term, I'm not sure. For as long as it continues to be meaningful, I'll continue to keep going and trying to make it better. Anything else that might come along would just be a bonus.

8.       What helpful advice would you give to other fashion bloggers?

I would encourage them to be thoughtful and passionate about their blogs and its content. Talk about the things that really excite them and whatever you do, do it the best you can - from layout to writing to photos. Your readers can tell when someone's put energy and thought into what they're doing and this appreciation will translate into loyalty.

Also, don't blog to become the next Rumi or Emily. Blog because you want to share the special part of yourself that makes you get you up in the mornings and enjoy living with people who are interested and will ultimately care.
